Supporting children growing up under military occupation
Children in refugee camps in the West Bank are growing up under military occupation and are regularly exposed to violence. HOPING was asked to fund a workshop for 40 kids living in camps around Ramallah who carry the trauma of witnessing brutal force, the death of a friend or family member. The three day workshop included walking part of the Ein Samia trail, counselling, art therapy sessions, film nights, team building exercises, as well as learning about the history of Palestinian activism and the role women have played in community work. The workshops gave the young refugees space to express themselves and build networks of support. Activities helped them manage their trauma and imagine new horizons. They reported being able think creatively about their future, and that of their community.
